Bert's Little Brother

As good of a dog as Bert is, I was just a little concerned with bringing Owen home. But since day one, Bert has been super gentle around Owen. He likes to sniff his face and lick his hands. When Owen is napping, Bert is laying right by his crib. If Owen makes a sound, Bert whimpers to make sure that I heard him. When Owen is playing on his mat, Bert is by his side. It is so cute and I can't wait until Owen gets a little older. I know they are going to be the best of friends!

Owen - 4 weeks

We had our one month check-up at the pediatrician yesterday. Owen weighs 9 pounds 6 ounces which is at 50%. He is 21 1/2 inches long which again is at 50%. The doctor said everything looked good. He does have a blocked tear duct in his right eye which is gross. Most mornings his eye is sealed shut with green goop. It is so sad because he tries so hard to open it before I can clean it off.

Owen has been very sporadic in his nighttime sleeping patterns. He has gone as long as 8 1/2 hours and then as little as 2 hours. Typically, he has one really good night followed by a short night. At least I am getting some sleep. We discovered that salad was causing him to be constipated so I can't eat one of my favorite things for a while.

Owen rolled over when he was 8 days old and held his head up at 10 days. He can now hold it up for a long time and loves being held on your shoulder so he can look around at everything.

Doctor Update - 40 weeks, 2 days

I went back to the doctor today and unfortunately there is no change. The baby's heart rate was still strong so that is good. My blood pressure was a little elevated but nothing to be concerned about. I am scheduled for an NST (non-stress test) on Friday. If all is well with the baby, they will send me back home. Then, I am scheduled to check-in at the hospital on Sunday night and they will induce Monday morning. I am not happy about this and it made me really update today. I know for the sake of the baby I need to relax but right now that is hard to do.

I am just going to continue trying everything I can do to help get labor started. If nothing happens, at least I know the lentil will be here next Monday.

No Baby Yet

The due date has come and gone. Still waiting. I have tried everything to help get labor going but nothing seems to work. Today I am going to finish up a few things with work, get the tag for the new car and practice relaxing. That is one thing I have not tried and I am not so good at doing. Plus, I don't think I can clean my house anymore or bake anything else. It is what I do when I am stressed, worried and apparently 40 weeks pregnant.

Friends and family, you are going to have to come visit us in the hospital and at home because I have enough desserts for a party and my house is the most organized it will ever be.

Come on Baby!!!!

Doctor Update - 39 1/2 Weeks

I went to the doctor today for another cervix check. I am 1 1/2 cm dilated, 50% effaced and +2 fetal position. Basically that means the baby could come today or it could come in a week. The baby's heartbeat was strong at 150bpm. I am measuring just shy of 40 weeks so she guessed the baby is around 7 1/2 pounds. The baby has dropped a little more and she could feel the head. She did a pretty thorough exam (ouch) which she said might help trigger labor.

Although I did not see my doctor today, we talked about induction. I really do not want to be induced! They will let me wait until next weekend before they want to induce me which is a week past my due date. My doctor is on call on Monday so maybe that is the day the baby will decide to make an appearance.

Tonight is eggplant parm at Scalini's so we will see if the myth is true. I am also going to walk several times today, climb up and down stairs, drink raspberry leaf tea and try acupressure on my hands, feet, calves and back. Fortunately, I am not that uncomfortable so I can stand to wait a few more days if I have to. I am just anxious to meet the little one. Apparently, he/she does not feel the same way about meeting all of us!
